Essential Open Graph Tags

These meta tags control how your links appear when shared on social media.

og:title

The title shown in link previews. Keep it under 60 characters for best display across platforms.

og:description

A brief summary shown below the title. Aim for 120-160 characters. Compelling descriptions increase click-through rates.

og:image

The preview image. Use 1200x630px for best results. Must be an absolute URL (not relative). Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn all use this.

twitter:card

Controls Twitter/X card format. Use summary_large_image for a large preview image, or summary for a small thumbnail.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about link previews

Open Graph tags are HTML meta tags that control how your URL appears when shared on social media. They define the title, description, and image that show up in link previews on platforms like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and iMessage.
Common causes: missing og:image tag (no image appears), og:image URL returning a 404, image too small (Facebook recommends 1200x630px), or the platform has cached an old version. Use this tool to diagnose the issue.
Add or update the og:title, og:description, og:image, and og:url meta tags in your page's <head>. After updating, use Facebook's Sharing Debugger and Twitter's Card Validator to clear cached previews.
At minimum: og:title (page title), og:description (summary), og:image (preview image, 1200x630px), og:url (canonical URL), and og:type (usually 'website'). For Twitter, also add twitter:card (usually 'summary_large_image').
Yes! Every shortened link and bio page on Links on Link has properly configured OG tags. Your links always show clean, branded previews when shared on any platform — no manual setup needed.
Facebook caches previews for about 30 days. Twitter caches for about 7 days. LinkedIn caches aggressively. After updating OG tags, use each platform's debugger tool to force a refresh of the cached preview.
